i have things

For the first time in a few weeks I actually have things to post! WOW

First let’s talk about the pet dramas.

My parents rented a cabin and went on a short vacation last week. So Skye came over and stayed with us. It was nice to have company in my work office all day, since Luna won’t ever come up here.

Best coworker

She was a good girl all week but it made me realize we really need to finish getting the backyard fenced in before we get our own dog. Now that our neighbors on that side have sold their house and new neighbors will be moving in in the next couple of weeks, it gives us an “in” to build the missing part of the fence without hurting the old neighbors’ feelings. Introduce ourselves to new neighbors and let them know up front we’re looking at putting in a fence soon.

Luna did not like Skye being here stayed in my sewing room literally Tuesday-Saturday. (Thankfully with our house layout, she had access to the laundry room which Skye couldn’t get to, and the laundry room is where her litter box is. I moved her food in there as well and she ate fine all week.) Wednesday morning, I guess she thought maybe Skye was gone? I had put some empty boxes up across the upstairs door of my sewing room, to keep Skye out but let Luna leave if she wanted to. Skye was under my work computer and got her head stuck in the cord to my wacom tablet. She freaked out, backed up, ripped my tablet out of the computer and ran. I caught up to her at the doorway, got her untangled, just as I heard a crash – and there was Luna, right in the doorway, all puffed up and freaked out because she’d tried to jump over the boxes, knocked half them over, and came face to face with a dog. It was a disaster LOL. I shut the door real quick and Luna ran back in my sewing room.

And more drama yesterday, when Luna decided to try to eat a SQUARE piece of fabric and Chase and I both had to try to chase her down and catch her to rip it out of her mouth. She was absolutely terrified and freaking out. Been keeping an eye on her since and so far she’s been totally normal, EXCEPT that she had twice now hissed and lounged at me for no reason. Then goes back to being normal. She’s been totally normal with Chase. Eating normal. She’s always been the type to hold “grudges” so I’m hoping she’s just mad at me over the chasing and not that she’s in pain.

House stuff… finally finished my closet!!

The wallpaper was a bitch like I said last week. But it’s done and i’m pretty happy with it. I kinda wish I’d gone ahead and painted the closet black instead of leftover grey but I was trying to use up leftover stuff. And I do like it. Now I have to put everything back in my closet. Haven’t finished that… so the bathroom and our bedroom are still a disaster. I want to go through all my clothes before putting them back and thin the herd a bit first.

My parents had a good time on their trip and at one store mom took a pic of a bunch of old 80s toys in a case and sent it to me, mostly Care Bears, but in one corner I noticed these:

I FORGOT ABOUT THOSE I HAD A COUPLE OF THEM! Nostalgia bomb

I think that was the same store my parents got me this adorable Leia print:

And this amazing Sloth shirt:

And a blue tiger ornament from Turpentine Creek! And Skye got a new otter toy.

Onto sewing stuff. First, Kristie gave me these curtain panels:

I have 4 of them and they’re each about 2.5 yds long and 50″ wide (probably 54″ after removing hems) So I’ve got a good amount. I put a poll up on my IG story about what should I use them for. I was initially leaning towards 1700s and after getting a couple of suggestions in that vein it cemented it for me so that’ll be a project for the future.

Next up, Sleeping Beauty…

Replacement eyelets finally came. First pair never showed up. Got them set in thursday night. I do wish I’d used a heavier strength layer in this now that I have the eyelets in but oh well. It’s still better than what it was before.

Got the shoulder piece sewn back on and then looked at the hip pieces. I was on the fence about keeping the old piece or remaking it, but once I looked at the old piece I realized there was no reusing this – the back part of it was totally torn up because it had been built into the eyelets of the original bodice. So I took the trim off, because I did want to reuse that.

Looking through my stash I decided to use the leftover velour I dyed from my Padme nightgown shoes, with a layer of sparkle organza over the top. I think the organza was leftover from Tink.

I like that it’s still in the same blue family but darker.

But before I got too much further I had to turn my attention back to the main issue of the costume – the fact I can’t fit in the dress anymore. Like I said previously I picked up some satin at Joann that was as close as I could get to the original. I used the same back panel pieces and basically cut out extensions. Had some leftover lining I used on the inside. Also had to do a couple of small insets on the skirt at the center back so everything would meet up.

It’s NOT pretty. But it will all be under the bodice and not visible. The back point of the hip thing covers up the area of the skirt with no chiffon pretty well. It actually did end up being a little big – I probably should have taken it up a little bit, but TBH I’m probably not going to be wearing this anywhere… probably ever… so I’m not going to sweat it.
Then I had a few places to repair on the skirt where the chiffon seams had torn. Got that done and called it a day on the dress.

Last night I got the new hip panels assembled, trim sewn on, and sewn onto the bodice.

And I’m calling her done.

I am going to restyle the wig soon. Not a lot – brush out the styling in the bangs and redo the curl there and also probably do some light curling of the rest. Then I want to buy a cheap Merida wig and do a tiktok of all of my disney costumes. I mean, with no cons, I have to make up goals for myself.

I’ll get Aurora’s portfolio page updated with all this soon.

Next projects:
1. The curtain fabric project — sackback gown inspired by Elizabeth Swann maybe?
2. Arwen’s Hope Dress. I started this last year and got side tracked because I didn’t want to spend the money ordering my spoonflower fabric. Gonna do it now.
3. Re-do Endor Leia. I have poncho fabric and shirt fabric. I’m thinking I may have something that will work for the vest.
4. Liberty Dies Padme. I need to get my head wrapped back around this. I’ve lost my place…

Arwen will be next. I need to finish Chase’s shorts I’m making for him, and by the time those are done my Arwen spoonflower fabric should be here. I got lining material for the sleeves the other day. This is another one I need to wrap my head around again… the outer dress is basted together, I can’t remember if the shoulder wrap is with it or not. Or if I even ever made the shoulder wrap. Need to take stock of where I was.

That’s all I got for this week. Which was pretty substantial compared to earlier weeks.

Last thing

My shirt from Ash’s redbubble store arrived! Whoo!
